Make it a Holiday to Remember through Smart Money Budgeting. (July 2009)
A holiday break may seem like the least of your priorities during this economic recession, but through thrifty savings and money budgeting, time to relax and recuperate at home or abroad is still achievable.
This may also be the best time to get away from it all and prove the perfect tonic in these difficult financial times and there are loads of ways in which money can be saved to help you enjoy a well-deserved holiday.
Tour operators are offering some terrific deals to entice people unsure about booking a trip, to splash out and travel to somewhere they may not have normally considered or thought they could afford.
Long haul flights to places like the Caribbean which would have cost holidaymakers in excess of €1200 before the credit crunch, can now be snapped up for around €850.
This may still be out of the reach of many people working on a budget, but proves that the bargains are out there and can be found with a little bit of investigation. Searching through the internet can help you secure the cheapest flights, holiday insurance, car rental and hotel deals.
It may seem a laborious task booking each part of the holiday separately, but the savings that are made can be enjoyed during your break on day trips, meals, entertainment and shopping.
Other ways to save spending money for your summer holiday include these simple budget-planning manoeuvres:
·        Make yourself a packed lunch for work or at your place of study. You do not need to buy an expensive sandwich everyday, make your own ‘crunch lunch’ and you probably eat healthier too.
·        Do you live close enough to walk or cycle the routes you take most often? Think of the money you could save not paying for petrol or public transport each month.
·        For people who have no option but to drive to places, research the petrol stations in your local area and find out the ones that sell fuel and diesel the cheapest. It may pay to travel out your way for the best deals.
·        Sit down and research the best deals for gas, electricity or even your phone. A bit of investigative work and a change of provider could help save hundreds of pounds, money that can spent treating yourself whilst you are away.

If you are lucky enough to be getting away this summer…Happy Holidaying!
